There is no easy answer to ‘How do I lose weight’, it is different for everyone and it does not happen overnight. Whether you want to tone up, drop a dress size or lose more than that, the principles are similar. First, you have to be ready to make the changes that need to happen otherwise you will not be able to make long term changes that are sustainable. Making a positive change to your eating habits can have significant positive effects on your life. Let’s talk about processed foods, decreasing these can significantly help improve your wellness. Processed foods are full of chemicals, artificial colours, artificial sweeteners and artificial flavours. It is a good idea to stay away from packaged foods when you are trying to lose weight, packaged foods have a lot of hidden nasties and sometimes a high calorie content. Eating a wholesome diet including a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables is the best for when you are wanting to improve your health and wellbeing. If you can try to picture a rainbow and eat a variety of different coloured fruit and vegetables during the day to ensure that you are getting different nutrients.
Some people find that counting calories or counting macros work for them, but as long as you are considering the amount of protein and carbohydrates on your plate you are doing a good job. Ideally being as strict as possible with your carbohydrates and increasing your amount of protein will be more effective in losing weight. This means reducing the amount of potato, pasta, bread, rice, cakes etc, and increasing your vegetable and protein content. Making meals or snacks from scratch will help you as well, that way you know exactly what is going in and allows you to keep prepared.
