​Argh….I’ve got the FLU AGAIN!!!!
 
Is it really “the Flu”?  You may think you’re on deaths door and something as common as a cold could not possibly make you feel as sick as you do.  So you say you’ve got “the Flu”.  But is it really?  What are the differences?

​Both Influenza and the Common Cold can present with a number of different symptoms and be different each time you get the infections. The most common differences between Influenza and the Common Cold are listed below.

• Common Colds usually have extensive nasal secretions or congestion where as Influenza has very little nasal involvement.
• Influenza tends to cause severe body aches and extreme fatigue that cause the patient to be unable to get out of bed. This can last for a number of weeks.  The Common Cold will make you a bit tired but usually for only a few days.
• Influenza is also likely to have a sudden onset of fever, chills, cough and body aches.  The symptoms of a Common Cold usually appear more gradually.
• Influenza often has headache especially behind the eyes and on eye movement.  The Common Cold can have a general mild headache or “stuffy” head from the sinus congestion.

 
Regardless of which infection you have the best medicine is REST and the best thing you can do for your friends, family and work colleges, is to isolate yourself and use good hand and cough hygiene measures.
